Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist

Dr Vinodh Devakumar is a Consultant General Physician and Rheumatologist at Oldham working as part of the Northern Care Alliance. He is Clinical Director for General and Specialist Medicine and the Training Programme Director for General Internal Medicine for Health Education North West England. As part of his passion for education he is an advanced life support instructor and a course medical director. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), RCP Regional Advisor, and MRCP PACES Clinical Examiner.

Dr Devakumar looks after general medical inpatients, participating in the acute on call rota for The Royal Oldham Hospital where he is based and also as a Rheumatologist working with Pennine MSK Partnership Ltd. His role working with Pennine MSK partnership has centred on the provision of Consultant Rheumatology support and guidance in the development of a seamless interface between primary and secondary care. This has involved work with guidelines development, pathways of care, and the structure of the future provision of rheumatology services for Oldham patients by delivering care almost entirely within a community setting. In addition to this, Dr Devakumar also works as an is external clinical advisor for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and as a specialist clinical advisor for the Parliamentary Health Services Ombudsman (PHSO).

His interests include osteoporosis and inflammatory arthritis. As a result, he works to further support the local Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) and reports DEXA scan results, and he is a member of the North West Rheumatology Peer Review Steering committee, and the proud patron for the Polymyalgia North West Support Group (PMRGCA). A group which was established in 2013 to provide support and information to people with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA).
